TIRANA, June 12 – Prime Minister Edi Rama defended his Macedonian counterpart, Dimitar Kovacevski after the handshake jokes with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz as the opposition in North Macedonia has demanded Kovacevski’s resignation.
While Greek Prime Minister Micotakis introduced Kovacevski to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz as Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama said giggling that Kovacevski is “Prime Minister of the future Western Bulgaria”. Rama’s sarcasm caused laughter to everyone, including Prime Minister Kovacevski, reported KlanMacedonia on Sunday.
But Rama said that the hysteria of some people in Skopje is to laugh and cry, after he mocked the ugly blockade of North Macedonia by Bulgaria.
“To laugh and cry is the hysteria of some in Skopje towards Prime Minister Kovacevski after the release of the video of the handshake with Chancellor Scholz in Thessaloniki, where I mocked the ugly blockade of North Macedonia by Bulgaria! Bar quarrel amidst the meatball smoke,” Rama said.
After the meeting of Skopje’s Prime Minister with Chancellor Olaf Scholz, where Rama was also present, there were strong reactions from Macedonian politicians.
“Not only humiliating the words with which Macedonia was ashamed and offended in an international meeting in front of the Balkan leaders and the German Chancellor, but even more so that Kovacevski followed them all with laughter and inappropriate approval. Yesterday, when he was introduced as the Prime Minister of the future Western Bulgaria, if he had a gram of dignity, Kovacevski would have reacted in defense of his country, which he represents and for which he receives a salary from the citizens. He shouldn’t have laughed and rejoiced. What made you, Mr. Kovacevski, laugh and rejoice?” asked Vlado Misajlovski, VMRO-DPMNE deputy leader.
