TIRANA, June 12 – The head of the Freedom Party (FP), Ilir Meta, commented on the government’s promise of a salary of 900 euros in a statement to the media where he said that the latter was made only in the context of the election campaign.
Meta said that Albania has the lowest income in the region and such an increase in wages will deepen the inequality between the segments of society. He added that the decision to raise salaries for legislators and public administration was taken without any in-depth economic analysis.
In the climax of the election campaign, Rama issued the promise of a salary of 900 Euros and approved a law to increase salaries, said Meta, who noted that it was an adventurous step that has nothing to do with a salary reform, but only with an electoral maneuver. “These actions were so speculative and so electoral, since the salary increase has not started to be applied since the coefficients were wrong, although the law has been approved in the Assembly.”
According to the former president, this salary increase results in the deepening of extreme inequality in Albania. Previously, if the prime minister’s salary was 7 times higher than the minimum wage, it has now increased to 10 times.
Meta said that Albania is the last country in the region for attracting investors and the country with the lowest income in the budget, while economic growth remains lower, public debt is high and the purchasing power of an Albanian family is the lowest in the region. /argumentum.al
