TIRANA, August 6 – Ukraine has refused to recognize Kosovo, but apparently the country, which is facing Russian aggression, has changed its attitude. A Ukrainian deputy in a reaction on social networks has announced that he has submitted a draft law on the recognition of Kosovo’s independence to the Parliament a few days ago.
Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko said he submitted to the Ukrainian Parliament a bill asking for recognition of the independence of Kosovo.
“Ukraine shares Western values and will support democracy anywhere in the world. I hope Ukraine will recognize Kosovo’s independence as soon as possible,” said Ukrainian MP Goncharenko.
The former chief diplomat of Kosovo, Petrit Selimi has praised that initiative, noting that now the Ukrainian people know who their true friends are, as they always maintained friendly relations with the Serbs.
In a post on Twitter on Saturday, Selimi called it an important initiative by the Ukrainian MP calling for the recognition of Kosovo. “For years, Ukraine has refused to recognize Kosovo, maintaining friendly relations with Serbia. After the Russian genocidal invasion, Ukraine knows who its real friends are. Certainly not Putin’s apologists,” said Selimi.
