The Munich Security Conference began on Friday in the Bavarian capital.
According to the conference’s chairman, Christoph Heusgen, the main focus will be on the conflict in Ukraine and its consequences. Apart from that, in his words, participants will discuss the structure of European security, relations with the “global South,” strengthening trans-Atlantic ties, general security, and the impact of climate change as the biggest threat facing humanity.
Several hundred politicians from around the globe, including 45 presidents and prime ministers, as well as around 90 ministers, are expected to take part. The United States will be represented by Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The German delegation, including Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, will be led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Also among the participants are French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and member of the CCP Politburo Wang Yi, Finnish President Sailu Niinisto, Polish President Andrzej Duda NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
The forum will run until February 19.
