TIRANA, July 19 – As many as 53 academicians, members of the Assembly of the Academy of Sciences, have signed the draft law on the Academy of Sciences (ASH) in Albania proposed by the majority in the Assembly.
In their letter addressed to the Assembly on the final version of the ASH bill presented to the legislative, the 53 academicians who have signed the bill said that they find it in principle in full compliance, even technically improved, with the draft approved by the Assembly.
“After getting acquainted with the variant presented by the initiator deputies, to the Assembly and the Education Committee, we fully agree with it and find it in principle in full compliance, even technically improved, with the project approved by the Assembly,” said the academician as quoted by local media on Wednesday.
Socialist members of the Commission for Media and Education gathered on Wednesday and voted on the new draft law on the Academy of Sciences, which extends the mandate of the current chairman, Skënder Gjinushi, a former veteran politician since the time of the communist rule.
According to this bill, the Assembly of the Academy of Sciences determines its own rules of operation, through its Law and Statute. The governing bodies of ASH are elected by the Assembly by vote, not by law.
In a reaction on social networks, the chairperson of this commission, DP deputy Flutura Açka, considered it an illegal act to extend the mandate of Skënder Gjinushi. /argumentum.al
