TIRANA, April 7 – The Minister of State and Relations with the Parliament, Elisa Spiropali, ruled out the possibility that the candidate proposed by the majority will be the former chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Lulzim Basha.
Spiropali said this in a talk show on News24 TV on Thursday as Albania has not yet started negotiations and discussions for the election of a new head of state.
The mandate of the current President, Ilir Meta ends on July 24 this year and there is no chance for a second mandate of him. The minister claimed that the Socialist Party (SP) has the votes to elect the new president of the Republic. “The conference of chairmen is held on April 29. We have 5 rounds for the president’s vote as defined by the constitution. Prior to this process, the process of negotiations and discussions on the profile of the new president should begin. We hope that through discussions with the 3 parliamentary groups, we will find agreement on the election of the president,” said Spiropali.
She said there are no names today and there is no way to have them because the process has not started yet. “We are open to voices from civil society for a president who when speaking and writing makes senseiting and doesn’t get involved in political debates and doesn’t incite violence in the electoral process. and be a president that everyone can be proud of,” she said.
Further the minister said the proposals of the deputies will be anonymous, but the first forms have not been administered. “It is a form with 3 names, that they give their proposals. We have not administered them yet. We have nothing to do with the opposition, we can do our best for the process to follow the constitutional deadlines.”
According to her, there is no chance that Mr. Basha will be president. “We need open doors, not armored ones. I remember the action of the DP from” Rama go!” to “Basha left!,” said Spiropali.
Basha and Berisha are sides of the same coin which means failure for both of them in any circumstances.
