In the first reaction of the ruling Socialist Party (SP) on the decision of the chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Lulzim Basha to expel the veteran leader, Sali Berisha from the parliamentary group on Friday, Minister of State for Relations with Parliament Elisa Spiropali said on a local TV on Saturday that the Democratic Party (DP) is in a difficult position, but the government will deal with the affairs of the third term. She said the opposition is not the enemy of the opposition but a competitor in a race.
“It is not up to me to judge this decision. It’s a tough position, but it’s their job. They have to resolve their affairs within the party. They are in a difficult moment, but we have our jobs. The war is not with the opposition. For us, the opposition is not an enemy. It is competitive in a race where we come out with a program and a team,” said Spiropali.
In addition she said that she did not have any opinion on the matter, but, according to her, it would certainly have been good for the opposition to be in another development process. “I hope they will find their way. We have made enough comments about him (Sali Berisha) in 30 years, we look to the future. Every comment is a fall into the trap of political debate, where we are not talking about politics, but only about politicians.”
Asked about a possible return of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, Spiropali said it would not be a surprise. According to her, he is a free individual and can behave as he sees fit.
“No surprises. We will not take part in the agenda of a barren debate. We neither take his voice nor give it to him. He is a free individual. He can behave as he sees fit. Within the DP it is clear what is happening, but we are worried about the situation with schools, education, and pandemic.
