TIRANA, November 6 – About 570 convicts are expected to benefit from the amnesty, according to the draft law proposed by the government which was released on Monday.
The draft law provides for the suspension of criminal prosecution for the majority of criminal misdemeanors that are punishable by two years of imprisonment. According to the draft law, men who have been sentenced to up to three years of imprisonment and women who have been sentenced to up to four years in prison for sentences that were given before June 30 of this year will be released from prison.
The men also regain their freedom who from the date of entry into force of the law have 3 years left in prison. The same will be applied for the women, who have four remaining years in prison.
The amnesty will be for women over 50, men over 65 and minors. Meanwhile, men benefit from a one-year reduced sentence and one and a half years for women and minors, who do not benefit from amnesty like others. Exceptions are those sentenced to life imprisonment, those convicted of murder and those who are subject to SPAK.
