TIRANA, November 1 – All the findings of the 2022 Progress Report of the European Union for Albania are on the line of confirming the fulfillment of the criteria for the formal opening of the country’s negotiations for EU membership, said the Chairman of the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party (SP), Taulant Balla during the meeting of the Commission for European Integration on Tuesday.
“What I want to say and to be very clear is the fact that overall the assessment of the progress in each chapter of the Acquis is positive. There is no going back on the basic principles; there is progress in 32 out of 33 chapters. The field where progress has been evident is naturally that of justice,” he said.
According to Balla, the area in which attention should be focused for the implementation of the commission’s recommendations is freedom of expression.
Further Balla said Albania needs a media free from the power and it must be a true fourth power, but the media must be for the truth.
“The negotiation process has its own positive and negative examples. There are countries that have been negotiating for 30 months and there are countries that have not yet opened a chapter for 300 months. I hope that we move forward,” said Balla. /Argumentum.al
