TIRANA, April 27 – The meeting of the Socialist Party (SP) Chairmanship discussed the process of electing the new President and the proposals on the names of the candidates were handed over on Wednesday.
The profile of how the next President should be was discussed emphasizing that the head of state should not be an active politician nor from the SP Parliamentary Group.
“The next head of state should not be identified with the SP. Priority for the candidacy is given to those who come from diplomacy and academic life,” SP head Edi Rama was quoted as saying at the meeting.
The chairmanship decided to convene the National Assembly of the SP on May 7. Prime Minister Edi Rama has closed the door of cooperation again to former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
Rama told the media that he would not co-operate with him in electing the new president. Asked about negotiating on the presidential candidates with the Re-establishment Commission headed by Berisha the PM turned to jokes: “Where does he work? I do not know. Regarding (Democratic Party head of parliamentary group Enkelejd) Alibeaj we have no deadline, I hope he would submit proposals. ” /Argumentum.al
