TIRANA, September 28 – The United States Embassy in Tirana has said that SPAK is making impressive progress in Albania’s objectives for justice reform.
The US Embassy said on social media on Thursday that Chargé d’Affaires David Wisner and US Embassy diplomats who support the justice sector met with SPAK Chief Special Prosecutor, Altin Dumani and SPAK prosecutors who are working to eradicate organized crime and corruption in Albania.
According to the press release, the work of SPAK and others in the justice sector requires extraordinary courage, integrity and passion and Wisner conveyed the United States’ appreciation for the work of SPAK, noting that he has their full support to carry out his mission on behalf of the Albanian people.
In the meantime, in another event, the head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office, SPAK, Altin Dumani, in an informal meeting with journalists, gave details about the most sensational files in the country.
Regarding the “Gërdeci” case and the phase of the investigations, Dumani said on Thursday that it is still under investigation and that the prosecution is cooperating with the US. Dumani referred to many files like those on “Sterilization”, “Metamorphosis”, Complex “Partizani”.
Regarding the accusation in SPAK against former president Ilir Meta and members of his family, Dumani said that they are waiting for a letter of request from the US.
Regarding the military base in Saranda, Dumani said that the matter is under investigation. /argumentum.al
