TIRANA, May 17 – The Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has requested the sentencing of the former director of the Albanian Radio and Television (RTSH), Thoma Gëllci, to 1 year and 8 months in prison on corruption charges.
Gëllci was arrested on October 8, 2021, together with three members of the Bid Commission at RTSH: Ervin Muraj, Julian Tapia and Alban Malaveci.
According to SPAK, he announced the tender procedure before receiving approval from the Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA) and the Board for opening the VAT Agro channel.
Two companies were in the tender for the purchase of equipment. The tender was conducted in 2018 and the procedure was announced three years before VAT Agro started broadcasting. In 2021, VAT Agro came out in technical tests. The equipment was purchased through the tender and used in the meantime. In the tender for the purchase of equipment were two companies: “EURO contact” and “TBS 96”.
The members of the Bid Evaluation Commission have announced the winner, the company, which had a bid of 20 million ALL higher.
Both companies had irregularities in the documentation and had to be disqualified. /Argumentum.al
