TIRANA, February 8 – The Special Prosecution SPAK officially announced on Wednesday that it has submitted to the Special Court the criminal file against the former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu in connection with the tragedy of March 15, 2008 in Gërdec, where the explosion at the weapons dismantling workshop 26 people were killed and 300 others were injured.
According to the indictment of the Special Prosecutor’s Office, former Minister Mediu is charged with two charges; that of misuse of duty and misuse of duty in cooperation with military subjects, commanding staff.
According to the SPAK, the defendant, Fatmir Mediu is accused of issuing several by-laws in relation to the process of dismantling weapons in the village of Gerdec in cooperation with other officials of the Ministry of Defense as well as other persons who had the quality of the military. the law, acts which, according to the Special Prosecutor’s Office, have damaged the legitimate interests of the state and brought unfair advantages to the companies SAC inc and Alba Demil shpk of Mihal Delijorgji.
Mediu was previously charged by the General Prosecutor’s Office, but in 2009, when his criminal case was being tried in the Supreme Court it was discontinued because he was elected as a deputy in the Parliament of Albania as the law of the time provided that the criminal prosecution or trial could not continue.
With the creation of SPAK, it was Zamira Durda, the mother of a minor child who died in Gerdec, who asked for a re-investigation of the case and the trial of Mediu, as, according to her, justice has not been done for the Gerdec tragedy. /Argumentum.al
