TIRANA, July 11 – The decision by the Council of Mandates of the Assembly to remove the mandate of the socialist MP, Arben Ahmetaj requested by the special prosecution on serious crimes, SPAK, is held amidst debates between the majority and the opposition behind closed doors on Tuesday.
The head of SPAK, Altin Dumani and then the prosecutor, Enkeleda Millonai have presented to the Council all the facts through which they think that the former Deputy PM and Minister, Ahmetaj should be arrested.
Asked by a socialist deputy, Dumani said that all the facts justify the arrest of the former Minister of Finance.
The meeting was accompanied by strong debates, as the opposition demands that this meeting be held with open doors. For the first time, SPAK has asked the Assembly that this session be held behind closed doors as other names are included in the file considered secret.
In the meantime the MP’s defense lawyers, Saimir Visha and Enrik Ligori, asked to postpone the meeting, as, according to them, they needed more time. As a result, it is not expected that a decision will be made at Tuesday’s meeting and the Council of Mandates may set another date for the next meeting.
It is learned that the lawyers have declared that Arben Ahmetaj is not in Albania, but his location is not known. /argumentum.al
