TIRANA, April 10- The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) has upheld the request of the special prosecutors authority, SPAK, leaving 19 police officers in prison. Meanwhile, ‘Home arrest’ has been set for 8 others, while 4 were suspended of duty at the Morina border checkpoint with Kosovo.
The court hearing started two hours late due to not completing the escort procedures of the defendants on time on Sunday.
The police officers were arrested after taking bribes in exchange for the passage of smuggled goods, favoring various persons for the importation of smuggled goods.
They also used to take bribes by allowing the trafficking of vehicles, other illegal items and helping to cross the border citizens who had legal problems to enter the countries of the European Union. /Argumentum.al
