On 5th of April 2024, in the premises of the Mediterranean University of Tirana ( UMSH) was launched the new book “Negociatat – sfida e fundit e integrimit“ ( Negotiations, the last challenge of integration) by diplomat and publicist, Dr. Jorgji KOTE.
Among many participants were the President of UMSH, Academician Anastas Angjeli and its Rector, Academician Adrian Civici, former Foreign Ministers Paskal Milo and Besnik Mustafaj, Ambassador of Career Dashnor Dervishi, Directresses at the Assembly, Holta Nika and Elda Zenelaj, Directress of the EU Relations at the Foreign Ministry, Admira Jorgji, Advisor of the Chief Negotiator with the EU, Erianda Malaj, former ambassadors, Prof. Dr. Arben Cici, Maxhun Peka, Islam Lauka, Visho Ajazi, Kujtim Morina and others.
In his opening remarks, Academician Anastas Angjeli highlighted that the Mediterranean University attaches primary importance to hosting book launch events like this on the advancement of EU integration in our country, especially when written by well-known experts on the EU as Dr. Jorgji Kote.
The Key Note Speakers, MPs, Jorida Tabaku and Etilda Gjonaj, respectively Chair and Vice Chair of the Parliamentary Committee of Integration greeted all participants. They underlined the notable values, recommendations and conclusions of this book. They dwelled on the challenges which our foreign policy and diplomacy are facing in their path to EU accession and in more concrete terms the current negociation process and the author’s contribution in this respect.
Prof. Dr. Ksenofon Krisafi, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Human Sciences at the UMSH, who has also written the Preface dwelled at length on the messages, substance and the several values of this book for students and experts of international relations, our diplomacy and governmental agencies involed in the negotiation process with the EU.
He added that this book pays homage to the idealism, work and commitment of a large number of experts who have ben working tirelessly for years on end with their knwoledge, wisdom, determination and energies to make a century old dream come true.
Prof. Krisafi continued saying that “Negotiations, the last challenge of integration” comes in the proper time, as a testimony of Albania’s efforts for Europe, progress achieved, lessons learnt, projects and other reforms that should be still implemented in view of opening and advancing the EU accession negotiations. The book is written with a rich language and an atractive style, with particularly intriguing and telling titles and subtitles.“
The Minister of Integration during 2013 – 2017, Mrs. Klajda GJOSHA in her intervention emphasized that the book is like an accurate account of events, forums, meetings and summits held in the last 10 years on the EU accession negotiations in Tirana, Brussels and elsewhere.
She underlined that with its 7 chapters and 41 writing pieces the book refers to many different processes, initatives, efforts, delays, hurdles and expectations. It is written with a realistic and positive spirit, showing deep appreciation for the different instittutions and agencies involved in this historic process, partner states, media, the civil society, fellow citizens, voicing also civil and diplomatic concerns, and at times even critical well-wishing remarks.
In his comments, former Foreign Minister, Prof. Dr. Paskal Milo underlined the author’s special diplomatic and professional skills and reliability in addressing this major theme.
Dr. Kote has covered this multilateral dossier since the end of the ‘ 80 in the Foreign Service, then for 15 years in our most important diplomatic representations in Berlin and particularly in Brussels during the period 1997 – 2017 with many useful insights, which he stressed are conducive to the political decision – making process.
Dr. Kote is a well-known publicist, he has authored 7 other books, among which “ Berlin without walls” “ Diplomacy for all” and “ True Stories from Red Albania” and over 500 articles in the Albanian daily newspapers.
At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Jorgji Kote thanked all participants, the key note speakers and the President of the Mediterranean University, for hosting this event, with the best congratulations for the 15th Anniversary of its founding.
