TIRANA, September 27 – “The European Union is not complete without the Western Balkans and the commitment of the German government is to integrate this region as soon as possible,” said the Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Policy of the German Bundestag, Michael Roth, at the meeting held in Berlin on Wednesday which focused on the Berlin Process.
Participants in the meeting were the chairmen of the foreign commissions of Albania, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia. Montenegro was absent from the meeting as a country that has not yet formed a government after the elections held in the country.
The Berlin Process summit will take place in Tirana on October 16, but according to Roth, the open and honest exchange, first, at the parliamentary level would serve to advance the European agenda for the countries of the Western Balkans.
“This is only the first meeting of this type and we will continue to intensify such meetings of this format to give impetus to exchanges and discussions between colleagues at the same table, trying to avoid bilateral discussions and focusing on the common interest of the region,” he said.
Speaking at the meeting, Mimi Kodheli, the chairwoman of the Foreign Policy Committee, said that the Berlin Process is an essential instrument for the path of the Western Balkans to the EU.
According to her, the Albanian Presidency has focused on topics such as energy security, the green agenda, education, digitization, cyber security, as well as an investment plan within the framework of the Berlin Process. /argumentum.al
