TIRANA, February 7 – The US and the European Union have welcomed the decision of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, to accept in principle the European Union’s plan for the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations. The EU emissary for dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak wrote on Twitter that the high-level talks will now continue.
“I am happy that Kosovo has accepted the EU proposal in principle. We will continue the talks for a high-level meeting,” said Lajçak on Tuesday.
While the US ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier offered full support for the dialogue facilitated by the EU.
“We will continue to offer full support in the dialogue facilitated by the EU. The temporary agreement will bring significant benefits to both Kosovo and Serbia,” he said.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that the EU plan is a good basis for discussions.
According to the speaker of the parliament, Glauk Konjufca, Prime Minister Kurti said that this plan is a good basis for discussions three months ago, saying that a new form of the Association will be found.
The LDK reacted by saying that there is no need for a basic agreement that does not contain recognition for Kosovo.
The EU proposal is not a final agreement, but another agreement for the normalization of relations, while in the versions that have been published in the Kosovar media, the recognition of Kosovo by Serbia is not mentioned at any point. /Argumentum.al
