TIRANA, February 5 – The Central Election Commission (CEC) has officially started the process of preparing the May 14 local power elections in Albania. Democrats have made public that their candidates for mayor will be those who were winners in the Primaries process last year.
Meanwhile, the Socialists are taking their time and have declared that they will respect the official deadlines to announce the lists of their candidates, who will be agreed only a few days before submitting the names to the CEC.
Undisputed is the re-candidacy of Erjon Veliaj in Tirana, as well as that of Ledian Llajtja in Elbasan. Despite the fact that for Durrës there are quite a few debates within the SP of this city, it seems that the current mayor will be the name that will be made official for the race on May 14.
At the last meeting of the SP Chairmanship, the SP head, Edi Rama, according to Tv Klan on Sunday, has declared the current mayors will be candidates in all 5 municipalities where the SP won in the partial elections of March 6.
In Shkodra, it is no longer a secret that SP’s candidate is Benet Beci. During a tour that Rama made in several municipalities in the fall last year, he made it clear that he would re-candidate the mayor of Korça, Pogradec, Gjirokastra, Përmet, Lezha, Kamza and several other small municipalities.
Vlora is the one that has caused a big debate in the SP ranks. What is known for sure is that the current Mayor, Dritan Leli has no chance for another chance after the clashes with the Prime Minister before the elections of April 25, 2021 when he did not accept his offer to be part of the list of deputies. /Argumentum.al
