TIRANA, July 19 – “The justice system in Albania continues to face great challenges and is still not providing the expected results,” said Gazment Bardhi, head of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party (DP) during the 16th meeting of the Parliamentarian Committee of Stabilization-Association EU-Albania.
Bardhi said that about 83% of the pending judicial cases have passed the reasonable trial period.
According to him, the High Council of the Judiciary has found that the Court of Administrative Appeals needs about 24 years to finish work on the stock of files accumulated until 2022.
“According to the Barometer surveys, an ever smaller number of Albanians believe that the justice reform has cleansed the system of corruption. Fewer Albanians believe that the reform has brought the punishment of corrupt politicians,” he said.
“The new judicial map is being implemented at a time when 44% of judges and 38% of prosecutors are absent from the judicial system as a result of the Vetting process, while the stock of pending files remains high. These challenges show that the justice reform in Albania has not yet managed to provide the expected results,” said Bardhi. /argumentum.al
