TIRANA – Albania has been praised by the US Ambassador, Yuri Kim to withdraw from the project over the introduction of the 5G technology.
A post on Twitter by Ambassador Kim on Wednesday lauded Albania for joining the US in The Clean Network to protect their 5G networks from what it called untrusted vendors. She described that step as an important strategic decision to protect critical infrastructure.
After continuous public criticism by the US Embassy in Tirana over the introduction of the 5G technology, the Albanian government decided to withdraw from the project, reported Tirana Times on December 13, 2019. “A Memorandum of Understanding with the US government on 4G and 5G security was adopted during a meeting held on Wednesday with the Council of Ministers, which is effective immediately. This comes after many stated concerns by the United States about the use of technological equipment manufactured in China,” said the report of the weekly published in Albania.
