TIRANA, November 9 – The American ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, has asked the government of Kosovo not to continue with fines for Serbian citizens in the north of the country, to extend for ten months the deadline for re-registration of cars and to urgently start negotiations for the formation of the Association of Serbian Municipalities.
The statement of the American ambassador on Wednesday was made a few days after the officials of the Serbian List, the main party of the Serbs in Kosovo, announced that the northern Serbs will leave the institutions of justice, order, municipal, but also the Assembly and the government of Kosovo.
Serb actions were undertaken after the Kosovo government began implementing a plan to re-register cars with illegal Serbian license plates on November 1, which was opposed by most local Serbs and official Belgrade, said REL.
The European Union and the United States of America asked the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, that this plan be postponed for ten months, but this request was rejected. /Argumentum.al
