The US State Department backs the pending opening of the EU accession negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia without delay.
This was declared by the Spokesman, Ned Price in a post on Twitter on Friday where it is pointed out that the US is engaged at the highest levels of government to demonstrate its commitment to the European paths of the two Western Balkans countries.
A dispute between North Macedonia and Bulgaria has put the first intergovernmental session of the talks at a deadlock with Sofia putting its veto against Skopje.
Diplomatic efforts are underway to overcome the impasse. Albanian PM Edi Rama paid a visit to Sofia on Wednesday but no concrete details were made public if any solution was found.
Below is the full note of the US Spokesman:
“We support the opening of EU accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania without delay. We are engaging at the highest levels of government to demonstrate our commitment to the aspirants’ European paths.” /argumentum.al
