TIRANA, November 6 – The United States agrees with the European Union that the recent events in the relations between Kosovo and Serbia endanger the important progress made in the dialogue between them mediated by the EU, said the American ambassador to Serbia, Christopher Hill.
Hill said that the Serbs should respect their commitments to dialogue and return to the institutions of Kosovo, while there were more demands for Kosovo, said Gazeta Express on Sunday.
“The withdrawal of Serbs from Kosovo’s institutions is not a solution to the current disputes and has the potential to further escalate tensions on the ground. Therefore, the United States joins the EU in calling on representatives of Serbia and Kosovo Serbs to abide by their dialogue commitments and return to their duties in Kosovo’s institutions, including the police, judiciary, and local administrations,” Hill told N1.
In addition he said that the US joins the EU in calling on Kosovo institutions to honor their obligations without delay, which means that the process for re-registration of vehicles be postponed immediately and any punitive measures against license plate owners issued by Serbia is suspended until the parties resolve the license plate issue within the frame of dialogue.
This also means the immediate start of negotiations on the establishment of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority, which is a legally binding obligation for Kosovo.
Kosovo’s continued failure to implement this obligation violates the rule of law and damages Kosovo’s reputation and credibility, Hill said. The Ambassador called on both sides to choose the path of dialogue and refrain from actions that would lead to violence and confrontation. /Argumentum.al
