At least one person has been killed at a shooting in Vienna with several others injured.
Police have confirmed that there are six different shooting locations in Austria’s capital on Monday evening, which started at synagogue in the centre of Vienna at around 8pm local time.
There are unconfirmed reports that up to seven people have been killed, but police have said that there are “several suspects armed with rifles”.
Austria’s Interior minister Karl Nehammer told TV channel ORF that the shooting is believed to be a terror attack.
“At the moment I can confirm we believe this is an apparent terror attack,” he said.
“We believe there are several perpetrators. Unfortunately there are also several injured, probably also dead.”
Mr Nehammer said he cannot rule out that one attacker was wearing an explosive belt. All six shooting locations are in the immediate vicinity of street housing central synagogue, he added.
One suspect and a bystander have been shot dead, according to news agency APA.
Vienna Police on Twitter confirmed there is a “large police operation” going on in the area, and there are “persons injured,” including a police officer.
They have told people to stay indoors, with several gunmen seen on the streets this evening.
