TIRANA, October 27 – The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has said that the European Union will not give up and remains united in the fight against the energy crisis.
In a joint media conference with President Vjosa Osmani in Pristina on Thursday, Von der Leyen said that “the European Union will never surrender; we are here together because we are an energy union”.
“We are side by side with you. We will deal with this crisis in unity and solidarity. It is important for you to have access to the purchase of gas. You should also join the efforts to purchase gas, you will also benefit from the legal proposals and discussions we have in the EU regarding the ceiling for gas prices. We are trying so that the prices do not go too far, since we are an energy union and you will benefit from this,” she said as quoted by KosovaPress.
The President of the EC said that “we will give you a grant of 75 million euros to immediately support vulnerable businesses and households.” Von der Leyen underlined that Kosovo will also benefit from the EU aid for the region in the amount of 500 million euros.
She also reiterated the position of the Commission on visa liberalization for Kosovo. “Kosovo deserves visas. You have met all the standards. Now we have reconfirmed that you have completed everything. Our task is to convince the whole European Council, and most of them are on your side. A lot of diplomatic efforts and clarifications are required. You can count on us in the Commission because we will do everything to help you in this direction,” said EC President.
Earlier on Wednesday the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen paid a visit to North Macedonia. After Pristina she flew to Tirana. /Argumentum.al
