TIRANA, November 7 – The first protest against the agreement for housing tens of thousands of illegal immigrants between Albania and Italy was announced on social networks. The announcement was released on social networks on Tuesday.
Albanian and Italian premiers Rama and Meloni signed an agreement between the two countries, according to which more than 30,000 illegal immigrants rescued at sea will be received in two camps in Albania.
In the protest poster, the organizers warn that this rally will be held against “the return of Albania to the warehouse of the big European countries”.
The protest has been announced for Thursday at 16:00 in the square in front of the Prime Minister’s Office.
In the meantime, there have been reactions from other civil society representatives, analysts and politicians who denounce the deal which according to Italian media turns Shengjin where the refugee camp will be established as ‘Italian Guantanamo’.
In a comment in a press conference the chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha called ‘invalid’ the signature signed by Prime Minister Rama on the agreement reached on Monday evening between him and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni regarding the immigrants who will be housed in Albania.
“Edi Rama’s signature in that agreement is invalid because Edi Rama is the prime minister under international investigation, he is complicit with McGonigal. He is ready to sign anything to ease and save his head,” he said.
The former prime minister went even further by clarifying that Albania has an agreement signed during the government of the Democratic Party with the former Italian minister of the time, Giorgio Napolitano, which deals with the cases of immigrants who choose Albania as a transit country to arrive in Italy. Beyond that agreement, Berisha said that every other document signed by Rama has only one purpose. That agreement has never been applied.
“Edi Rama took that pledge on behalf of human slave traffickers. We recognize the agreement we signed with Italy to return to Albania those foreign immigrants who can cross from Albania to Italy,” said the DP head. /argumentum.al
