Rama Flies Urgently to the US in Search of Anti Covid Vaccines for Albania

Prime Minister Edi Rama has left for the United States of America in an announced trip as Albania's epidemic situation is getting aggravated with unchecked rising numbers of affected people and fatalities.
The news was announced by Rama himself, who emphasized in a post on Twitter on Saturday that his visit to the US is for the coronavirus vaccine.
"Securing the vaccine as soon as possible is a priority of our fight against the invisible enemy and we will not leave a stone unturned for the vaccine to start coming to Albania as soon as possible! The face-to-face contact with the vaccine manufacturers serves this purpose. On the way to the United States," wrote Rama on Twitter.
Earlier Albanian authorities had announced they were in search of many alternatives giving assuarances that the government had the money but no mention was made of any eventual vaccine provider.
A few weeks ago Prime Minister of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev in an interview for Mia.mk. said Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had expressed readiness for Greece to supply North Macedonia and Albania with the COVID-19 vaccine in order to speed up the process.
“Mitsotakis expressed readiness for Greece, as an EU member, to request that the supply of vaccines to North Macedonia and Albania go through it, because usually, the member countries go first, and only then the candidates. If it can be arranged for us 15 to 20 days in advance, then that is welcome,” said Zaev.
This unexpected emergency trip to the US apparently shows that Rama's government has not succeeded to secure alternatives in Europe although there has been talk that EU would assist the Western Balkan countries. /argumentum.al
