Pre- Electoral Coalition Projecting Osmani as President and Kurti as PM in Kosovo

The Vetevendosje (Self-determination) and Civic Initiative led by Vjosa Osmani signed Thursday an agreement on cooperation for upcoming 14 February election in Kosovo.
During a press conference the Vetevendosje leader, Albin Kurti, and acting president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, announced that Kurti will run for prime minister whereas the Vetevendosje will propose Osmani as candidate for president’s post. Osmani addressing media said that she will ask her current position as acting president to be fully legitimized by the Parliament after 14 February election.
Osmani was deputy head of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and after 2019 election she was elected Speaker of Parliament, but she was ousted from leading structures of the party after criticizing the decision of her former party to break up the Vetevendosje-LDK coalition which led to toppling Kurti’s Government in June 2020. Based on the Constitution of Kosovo Osmani assumed duties of president in October after former president Hashim Thaci was indicted of war crimes by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers based in the Hague.
Kurti told media Thursday that the Vetevendosje and Osmani’’s initiative will run under one election list adding that they will submit the election list to the Central Election Commission (CEC) on 16 January.
Kosovo is set to hold early parliamentary election on 14 February after the Constitutional Court ruled that the country must hold snap election because parliament’s confirmation of the LDK-led Government in June 2020 only passed because of an invalid vote by an MP who was convicted of fraud with a final court’s decision.
