Albania’s FM Eyes Breakthrough to Intergovernmental Talks with EU

"We hope that the First EU Intergovernmental Conference with Albania will take place as promised to pave the way for the country to move forward," said Foreign Minister Olta Xhaçka.

The Minister held a telephone conversation on Tuesday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Augusto Santos Silva, who holds the rotating EU presidency.

Xhaçka informed that she expressed gratitude for the efforts and kindness of Portugal to advance the integration of Albania and the entire Western Balkans into the European Union.

"A very fruitful phone call with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Augusto Santos Silva. I expressed my gratitude for Portugal's efforts and kindness to advance the integration of Albania and the entire Western Balkans into the EU, "Xhacka said, quoted by a press release issued by the foreign ministry press office.

No mention was made by the Minister of North Macedonia if the Conference of Albania with the EU will take place although Bulgaria keeps blocking such an event from the neighboring country. There are EU member countries who support that such talks start with the two countries at the same time.  /argumentum.al
