Berisha Blasts US Ambasador Calling Her Albania's Governor; US Embassy in Tit-for-Tat Reaction as Never Before

Former Prime Minister and founder of the right-wing Democratic Party (DP) Sali Berisha made public on Thursday the lawsuit filed against US State Secretary Anthony Blinken, while calling the US ambassador to Tirana, Yuri Kim Albania's governor.

The latter has formally requested DP head Lulzim Basha to remove from the parliamentary list Berisha who asked the US to release facts, evidence and documents they have against him for consuming the criminal offense of corruption.

Berisha described the decision to declare him persona "non grata" a political decision and revenge of George Soros and Edi Rama, while he did not spare strong attacks on Ambassador Kim labelling her as "governor" in Albania.

The US Embassy in Tirana reacted after the statements of former Prime Minister and former President Sali Berisha against Ambassador Yuri Kim, as well as his lawsuit against Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

The US Embassy is adamant that it will use all available instruments to tackle corruption and impunity, Balkanweb said.

"President Biden 's executive order, Secretary Blinken' s announcement, Ambassador Kim 's statements to the media last week and her editorial this week are clear and unchanged of the US position: The fight against corruption is of paramount interest. We will use all the tools at our disposal to tackle corruption and impunity," said the US embassy.

In the meantime Berisha, a pick up of Washington's diplomacy as the first president of pluralist Albania in the 1990s, declared that he will take his seat in Parliament in September to represent his electors. He also quoted Basha as having told Kim to present facts against his former boss who made him chairman of DP.

Basha has said no word on this sensitive issue. / argumentum.al
