DP's Shehu considers Escobar's visit to Tirana as positive while gives arguments for Basha's resignation

The veteran deputy of the Democratic Party (DP), Tritan Shehu has considered the visit of the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs and Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar to Albania as a positive visit.

"Mr. Escobar's visit is a positive and important visit for the stability of the region in this difficult period for its future," said Shehu, a former Foreign Minister of Albania, in a comment on Top Talk on Top Chanel TV on ThursdaI.

Regarding the meeting of Escobar with the current head of DP, Lulzim Basha, the MP, Tritan Shehu said it was a normal meeting with the opposition, regardless of who is currently leading it.

Escobar's visit to Tirana was part of his prescheduled tour in the Western Balkans and there seems to be a coincidence with the National Assembly called by supporters of the historic leader of DP, Sali Berisha which will be held on December 11 in Tirana.

Shehu, a former DP head, is a supporter of the movement undertaken by Berisha to revive the DP whose motto is conversation with DP grassroots called Foltore (Rostrum) across Albania.

"The DP Assembly will take important decisions for the party and the efficient opposition fight on December 11," he said. Further on Shehu said that Basha must resign for three major reasons: some electoral losses; although his motto in the campaign for re-election as Chairman was clearly in support of Berisha, 24 hours before the opening of the Assembly he arbitrarily communicated his expulsion from the parliamentary group; mismangement of all political actions during the entire period from that moment until today.

"The anti-American designation of the Assembly to be held on December 11 by Basha is groundless and damages our relations with the United States," Shehu said. / Argumentum.al
