The situation of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to be still worrying in Albania where 3 deaths and 151 new positive cases have been registered over the last 24 hours, said Dr. Eugena Tomini from the Institute of Public Health on Monday.
The death toll climbed to 319 since the outbreak of the pandemic in this Balkan country which is passing through an unchecked spread of the virus at a time when it is expected the opening of schools considered by foreign epidemiological specialists as ‘reservoir’ for the dissemination of the disease.
PM Edi Rama and his Education Minister have repeatedly confirmed that there will be infections in schools justifying such a deadly threat with the psychological need of children to go to school. As usual they claim that the example of other countries is followed without showing that the conditions in Albanian schools are so bad allowing no comparisons with other European countries.
In the meantime, Dr. Tomini said that currently, the situation is deteriorating in the hospitals of the Infectious Diseases and ‘Shefqet Ndroqi’ in Tirana, where, according to the data made public by Dr. Tomini, 198 confirmed patients positive with COVID-19 are being treated, and 21 of them are in intensive therapy of which 4 patients are intubated.
According to her, 8 citizens, who have been positive with COVID-19 and are currently negative, but are continuing to receive specialized hospital treatment for the consequences of the disease in the two COVID hospitals.
As of September 7, 2020, COVID-19 statistics are as follows: Total tests 68,728; positive cases 10,406; cured patients 6,186; active cases 3,901 and fatalities 319./argumentum.al
