European Union Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Oliver Varhelyi, who paid an official visit to Tirana on Wednesday, said EU has a very serious enlargement policy for Albania.
“We have been able to reach an agreement on the opening of negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia,” Varhelyi said in a joint press conference with PM Edi Rama.
But the Commissioner did not refer to any specific date on the first intergovernmental meeting between the Union and Albania.
Further on Varhelyi said now it is being moved on to the third segment of this great work, and this has to do with the economic investment plan.
“We think the plan we are here today can change the landscape of the region for the next 4-5 years,” he said.
In the meantime the Commissioner announced that Albania will supply gas to the entire region.
“We are ready to talk about the blue corridors, the coast and to work on the pipeline and on two hydropower plants in Albania. These are major projects that will improve the investment climate,” he said.
During his stay in Albania he adressed Parliament and had a meeting with President Ilir Meta./argumentum.al
