Albania marks on Tuesday the 10th anniversary of free movement in the European Union countries, concretely in the so called Schengen area. President Ilir Meta reacted to this important event for Albanians through a message on Facebook saying “today is the time to do everything to protect this great achievement and to make a reality the aspiration of every Albanian to join Albania in the EU.”
“10 years ago, we realized a dream, the free movement of Albanians in the European Union. It is time to do everything to protect this great achievement and to make a reality the aspiration of every Albanian to join Albania in the European Union,” said Meta.
The President concluded launching an appeal to the Albanian youth: “Do not leave Albania, but unite to make it a worthy European country!”
In a separate message on the same occasion the DP leader Lulzim Basha said 10 years ago, the first Albanians travel without visas to Brussels for the first time.
“50 young men and women together with the then Minister of Interior, Lulzim Basha traveled without visas making history. Only with their biometric passports in hand they checked in at Rinas airport without the need for any kind of visa and traveled to the EU capital on the Tirana-Brussels route on a plane. “After a journey of almost 2 hours, the plane landed at Brussels airport,” he said.
Basha noted that day will remain unforgettable for 50 young Albanians and Lulzim Basha who led them to touch the magic of free movement so close. /argumentum.al
