The deputy chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, Johann David Wadephul, has called on Albania to reach a consensus in the Political Council on electoral reform. Wadephul made that comment to DW after a meeting he had in Berlin with acting Foreign Minister Gent Cakaj on Tuesday.
Germany supports Albania in fulfilling the six conditions set by the Bundestag, said Wadephul adding that there is still work to be done. “Return to the consensus in the Political Council. And give the ODIHR the opportunity to assess the changes that will be made to electoral lists in the Political Council,” he said.
The number two of CDU / CSU parliamentary group made it clear that only if the ODIHR says electoral reform is fully in line with OSCE / ODIHR criteria it will be easy for them to say that the condition of electoral reform has been met.
Cakaj is in Berlin on a two-day visit to lobby for the opening of the First Intergovernmental Conference between EU and Albania. So far he has also met with the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs, Gunther Krichbaum, and with the Minister for European Affairs, Michael Roth./argumentum.al
