Representatives of the the Order of Pharmacists of Albania have complained that the market has been monopolized and there are unlicensed products in pharmacies in Albania. This was said by the chairman of the opposition Democratic Party (DP), Lulzim Basha, who held a meeting with some representatives of the Order in Tirana on Sunday.
Quoting them Basha wrote in a post on FB that the monopolization of the drug market by some pharmaceutical companies close to the government, has led to damage fair competition and quality of service. According to him, well-known companies have left, and there are not many patent drugs in the market, which have been replaced with drugs of dubious quality.
“We shared the concern about the tendency to seize the pharmaceutical service, causing the pharmacist to be employed by the distributor,” said Basha who noted that in the center is the interests of businesses and not citizens as the pharmacists have no power to refuse substandard drugs that go to the detriment of patients.
“In a situation where corruption is prevalent everywhere, the citizen remains a victim of the interests of the distribution business, which means that cheap drugs of dubious origin are sold at high prices and have no effect on treating diseases,” said DP Chairman pledging to change the situation after the April 25, 2021 elections.argumentum.al
